What is ‘New Adult’?
New Adult straddles the market between Young Adult (YA) and adult books.
While YA normally stars protagonists aged 14-17 doing teen stuff, and adult books tend to be about characters 25 and older doing adult stuff like marriage, careers, family, and worrying about affording their mortgages, New Adult (NA) main characters are 18-25, old enough to be independent adults, but are still taking their first steps into the world on their own. New Adult is popular for college age books.
My central character is 18 years old.
What is ‘Reverse Harem’?
Reverse harem, also known by the hashtag #whychoose, is a term or a trope used for stories where the central character does not choose between several love interests (usually 3 or more). In traditional love triangles, the main character will eventually choose one love interest, cutting off the other. In my story, my main character refuses to choose between her love interests. The book does not end with a M/F pairing.
How is ‘Romantic’ different from ‘Romance’?
While romance books have romantic relationship as the central plot with a certified HEA or HFN (Happily Ever After or Happily For Now) – see Lies for a Living for a contemporary romance example – a romantic book has romance but it is not the central plot element.
Winter Witch has romance, steam, and even spice, but the romance element is not the central plot.
What is High Fantasy?
High fantasy is fantasy fiction that is set in an alternate, entirely fictional world where the everyday rules are different, such as Lord of the Rings, A Song of Ice and Fire, or Throne of Glass.
Is this a series?
YES! This is definitely at least a trilogy, and the good news is the first 3 books are already written, so it won’t be a long wait between books.
